The nose occupies the centre of the face - a very important aesthetic segment. It is not unusual that a small nasal refinement may bring out attractive facial features, creating a striking impact. The shape of the nose is designed carefully by Dr. Conrad with the patient's participation prior to rhinoplasty surgery. This is done with the aid of medical photographs and, if needed, a state-of-the-art medical imaging device. Dr. Conrad has a reputation for using careful judgment to obtain natural rhinoplasty results.
"A rhinoplasty, out of all the plastic cosmetic operations, is the most challenging scientifically, technically and artistically. It provides a rewarding experience for the surgeon and most importantly, immense patient satisfactions". RHINOPLASTY SURGERY or “nose job” is a surgical procedure in which the nasal bones and cartilages are altered in shape, size, character and position to create the desired result. The final outcome of your Toronto rhinoplasty is also influenced by the redraping of the undermined skin and healing process. The operation is usually performed under general anaesthesia, with the patient safely asleep. Depending upon the nature of the correction required during rhinoplasty surgery, the procedure may either be performed from within the nose through small incisions inside the nostrils or through a small incision across the columella, the vertical strip of tissue separating the nostrils. Frequently, rhinoplasty is performed together with the correction of a receding chin. Sometimes it is done in conjunction with a face lift or blepharoplasty, to help reverse the signs of aging. At times, patients may have deformities inside the nose that produce increasing difficulties with breathing which should be corrected while a rhinoplasty is performed. During the pre-operative assessment, Dr. Conrad will explain the details of the type of incision necessary in your case. The external incision only becomes necessary in badly traumatized noses or in those who have undergone surgery by another surgeon, and require a revision. After Toronto rhinoplasty surgery has been completed, a small cast is placed on the nose and a small amount of soft packing is inserted into each nostril. The packing (not the cast) is usually removed the next day. Open vs Closed RhinoplastyYOUR RECOVERY FOLLOWING RHINOPLASTY IN TORONTO
The length of stay in the hospital normally does not exceed four to twelve hours. Following discharge, you are encouraged to remain out of bed most of the time, as being in an upright position will decrease swelling and accelerate healing. The cast is removed in Dr. Conrad's office on the sixth or seventh day after your rhinoplasty in Toronto. The swelling and bruising under the skin distort the immediate post-operative appearance. You must be patient while normal healing takes place. The average patient is usually presentable in ten or twenty days, even though he or she may resume normal activities much earlier - provided it is not strenuous exercise or heavy physical work. It is expected that nasal passages will remain slightly obstructed for up to two weeks. You may start blowing your nose gently after one week. Smoking is not forbidden but it is a very risky choice, particularly during the first two weeks following rhinoplasty surgery, as it may increase the risk of bleeding. You may gently cleanse the outside of your nose when the dressings are removed, and you may use cosmetics. For a period of six weeks after rhinoplasty surgery, it is essential that no pressure be exerted on the nose as this may displace the still unstable nasal bones. Eyeglasses of any kind must not be worn unless they are suspended from the forehead with adhesive tape. You may wear your contact lenses as soon as the eyelid swelling has subsided enough to permit comfortable insertion. ABOUT RHINOPLASTY: DR. CONRAD WOULD LIKE YOU TO KNOW… You should protect your nose from prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or frost during the first year following the rhinoplasty operation. You will find that some areas of the nose will remain numb for a few months, and this may render you susceptible to frostbite and sunburn. Some temporary numbness or altered sensitivity in the front of the palate and upper front teeth may also occur. RHINOPLASTY: SYNOPSIS
